Being a California girl has brought me lots of pleasure in life–but lately I’ve been really happy to see the “Real California Cheese” and “Real California Milk” seals on our products! (You can see the seals below)
I had the opportunity to gather some Real California dairy products, and make something delicious. I had a hard time trying to figure out what I would make…but in the end I decided to go with a classic: Macaroni and Cheese, so I made a delicious homemade cheese sauce that used both Real California Milk and Real California Cheese.
The reason I chose this sauce to make is because it is so easy to make, it only takes about 10 minutes–and it is all good products that you know are good for your family (especially your kiddos!) It is also made with things you almost always have in your pantry: Milk, butter, salt, pepper, and flour. Couldn’t be easier!
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon ground white or black pepper
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup Colby & Monterey Jack Shredded Cheese
- 1/2 cup Mozzarella Shredded Cheese
- Melt Butter; remove from heat.
- Stir in flour and seasonings.
- Gradually add milk, stirring until well mixed. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth.
- Cook for 5 minutes longer; add cheese. Stir until smooth and well blended. Serve with pasta.
Sounds awesome, right? Just boil some noodles and eat it with the sauce on top, or mixed in..your choice! I made some delicious pasta to eat it with, and my daughters went crazy over it. The great thing about this is you can use whatever cheeses you want to…substitute my choices for your favorites (or whatever is in your fridge) for an even more personalized experience! Just be sure to pick up that Real California Dairy!
California is an amazing source of dairy products. California is the country’s leader for Hispanic Dairy Products, I bet it is because the hispanic inspirations have spread, I don’t know a single person who doesn’t enjoy mexican food every now and then! California is also the number one dairy state in the US, making more milk, ice cream, and butter than any other state. California produces more than 25 types of Hispanic style cheeses and they all bear the “Real California Cheese” seal. If there is a “Real California Cheese” seal, you know it was made from only Real California Milk.
I love supporting my home-state…are you a Californian? What is your favorite dairy recipe?
